Critical Care Nurses, who may also be known as Intensive Care Nurses, are highly skilled healthcare professions specially trained to deliver direct care to critically unwell patients. The role of a Critical Care Nurse requires a unique set of skills and qualities. They are required to undertake a structure training programme using National Step Competencies which can be achieved through mentorship, supervision, in-house training and higher education.
